After the concerns about connectivity and and the drop in the tourism industry that have been the topic of many conversations and discussions in the Canary Islands over the course of 2019, The president of the Canary Islands Government, Ángel Víctor Torres and the Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Yaiza Castilla reportedly had a meeting with Jet2 Executives at the World Travel Market in London. Jet2 will open a base in Tenerife South this winter, with the tourism operator already recruiting more staff.
The head of tourism said that “after having transferred the need to increase connectivity with the Canary Islands, the airline has announced its intention to increase its air places by 35 per cent for this winter season, which means 200,000 more seats. In total they will have 773,000 air seats for the Canary Islands in winter as well as opening a base in Tenerife South. ”
Yaiza Castilla called it “great news for the Canary Islands” and added: “We will continue negotiations with this and other companies.”
Jet2 complements this increase with 14 per cent more air seats for the summer season, 130,000 more seats, which will mean 1.1 million Jet2 air seats in the Canary Islands from April to October 2020. Thats a total of 1.8 million seats available to the Canary Islands in the coming winter and summer seasons.
